Hi, I'm Olivia, and welcome to my world of fashion!
Growing up in Westchester, New York, I was surrounded by a world of art and music, with grandparents who were constantly painting, sculpting, and drawing to a father who played the drums in a band within our small town. No matter where I went, art was all around me.
I experimented with music, illustration, and fashion, which led me to my final outsource of creation, fashion. I have always known that my clothing was meant for me. From dressing up in my grandmother's clothes to looking up YouTube videos on how to make your clothing at home without a sewing machine. It wasn't until my grandmother passed away my freshman year of high school that I properly learned how to sew on her old Singer sewing machine.
I experimented with new skills and fabrics, which solidified my dream of working in the fashion industry. It was the push and encouragement from my family that brought me into the fashion world.
From then on I was constantly exposed to fashion. I went through a small fashion program at my high school which exposed me to making clothing from patterns and draping. From there I applied to Drexel University for Fashion Design.
My experience at Drexel has exposed me to many different areas of the garment world. From patternmaking and draping to sewing heavy woven materials to tailoring, couture, and knitwear. Drexel taught me everything under the sun. This allowed me to find what truly inspires me as a designer, and that is knitwear design and denim design.
Throughout my time at Drexel, I have learned to work with denim in all different ways, whether that is repurposing denim into a new garment, or dyeing my own denim and turning it into a denim jacket and jeans. I have also worked a lot with Shima Seki to create knitwear garments I never knew I could do. Each of these opportunities has led me to be open and excited to pursue the fashion industry.
