From September 2023 to March 2024, I spent time with the Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection at Drexel University, working with museum curators to conduct research and curate exhibitions. Located in the URBN Building in Philadelphia on Drexel's campus, it holds a museum-grade storage filled with historic garments dating back to the 1500s. With over 5,000 objects and steadily growing, the collection teaches students in majors from Fashion Design, Design and Merchandising, Art history, Product and Graphic Design, and many more.
During my time, I worked with many people from donors to students. I spent time taking care of the collection, preserving the garments along with hats, purses, and shoes from the 1700s to the present day. My most valuable moment during this internship was curating the Modern Ritual: The Art of Mary McFadden exhibition. Below are the scenes of curating garments together with historical importance and aesthetics. You will also see images from the exhibition itself.
Enjoy!
